We have some tired vertical mills in the shop and we want to purchase a used vertical mill. We have a EZTrack that performs well (ballscrew) and would like to find another just like it or something comparable but I'm don't know what's comparable. Any Ideas on a good (accurate) machine other than a Bridgport.

Re: Horizontal mini mill examples. Yes, definitely better to stay with a purpose built machine like the PM25. They make an R8 4" 3 jaw chuck. I did a lot of cnc turning with one on the 8x30 vertical mill I used to have. For short parts, with some gang tooling, you can make parts as fast as any lathe.

I have started on my Mill Conversion. First step is to clean down the machine and replace the X screw to a ball screw. The new ball screw has been ordered from Zapp Automation, very helpful service in machining and selecting the repalcement ballscrew.

I've bought this mill, for a very decent price . Only, it wasn't really a mill, but a block of cast and two crates of parts . It took me a few weeks, but now it's back together again, and fully functional . The mill is an alcera 600, constructed in 1974 . Now there's one part missing, the indexed ring for the Yaxis spindle .
